Objective: To determine the effect of structured feedback following OSPE-based formative assessment among second-year Nursing students in experimental pharmacology and to describe faculty perceptions of the feedback process.

Methods: A pre-test/post-test pilot study was conducted during October–November 2024 at Radha Govind Institute of Medical Sciences. Twenty second-year Nursing students selected by simple random sampling were assessed using a 25-item OSPE checklist on injection/drug-administration technique. Immediately after the first OSPE, structured verbal feedback was delivered using the Pendleton model. Students then had one month for reflection and practice before reassessment using the same checklist under similar conditions. Faculty and student perceptions were collected using 5-point Likert-scale questionnaires. Pre- and post-feedback scores were compared using a paired t-test.

Results: The mean OSPE score increased from 13.00 ± 1.86 to 18.95 ± 1.88 out of 25, with a mean paired improvement of 5.95 points. Recalculation from the student-level scores gave t = 52.13 (df = 19), p < 0.001. Positive faculty and student perceptions were also reported, with an overall mean rating of approximately 4.3/5 in both groups.

Conclusion: Structured feedback using the Pendleton model was associated with improved OSPE performance and favourable learner and faculty perceptions. Larger controlled studies are needed to separate the effect of feedback from repeated testing and practice.
